Zhichen Monastery
Zhichen Monastery, situated in Gulok County of Sichuan Province in China, belongs to the Kathog lineage of the Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It is said that in the past,100,000 practitioners of the Kathog lineage have attained liberation through rainbow body. Zhichen Monastery, with over 20 branch monasteries throughout the Sichuan and Qinghai Provinces in China, lies at the foothills of Four-Arm Chenrezig Mountain and Eight Herukas Mountain, locations that are blessed by Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, yidams, dakas, dakinis and dharmapalas.
Zhichen Monastery is the main seat of His Eminence Zhichen Bairo Rinpoche (or Bairo Rinpoche as most people call him), who at the age of eight was recognized by Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro as the 36th reincarnation of the Lotsawa Vairochana, a renowned enlightened translator. Lotsawa Vairochana was the emination of Buddha Vairochana, and was one of the realised disciples of Guru Padmasambhava known as “the 25 king and subjects”. He made all the Dharma teachings of the three Yanas available in Tibet through his enlightened skills, translating them into Tibetan language. Bairo Rinpoche lived and received education in his main seat in his younger days, and as signs of his spiritual attainment, had left several palm and footprints in rocks. These objects of homage in Zhichen Monastery are still visible today for devout pilgrims. Nowadays, his new seat Bairo-Ling at Kathmandu in Nepal is where he gives regular commentaries on various teachings of the spiritual path for monks, nuns and devotees from different parts of the world.
In the 1960’s, Zhichen Monastery was badly damaged. Bairo Rinpoche made a wish for the re-construction of the Monastery. Under the supervision of the current Abbot, Master Orgyen, the re-construction started vigorously in 2004, with the full support of His Eminence Bairo Rinpoche, his elder brother His Eminence Moktsa Rinpoche, the resident head of the Kathog Monastery, and his son His Holiness the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa, the spiritual head of the Drukpa Kargyu Lineage .
Through your continuous support for the second phase of the reconstruction of a 7-storey multi-functional building which includes a prayer hall, meditation rooms, clinic and school, not to mention fitting out of the principal hall and building of a road, you will make auspicious connections with the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and lineage masters that would lead you to reap the benefit of a swift enlightenment.
